DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Special Magistrate for Code Enforcement meets 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m.
when there are cases to be heard.

The Board of Commissioners appoints a Special Magistrate to hear and decide alleged violations of any code case.  The special magistrate is not a city employee. The special magistrate is an individual with an outstanding reputation for civic pride, interest, integrity, responsibility, and business or professional ability. The appointment of the Special Magistrate shall be made by the City Manager or his designee on the basis of experience or interest in code enforcement. The appointment of the Special Magistrate is ratified by the Board of Commissioners.

The Special Magistrate has the authority to impose administrative fines and other non-criminal penalties to enforce codes and ordinances of the City.
